Mundan Ceremony is performed for the child, the hairs are shaved to signify freedom from the past and moving into the new life. Chudakarana is done to ensure the baby grows as a healthy and spiritual individual who is free from sins and also to attain the goodness of life.

Key Insights :

  • Performed in 1st or 3rd year.
  • Get Blessings from the lord for a healthy life.
  • First hairs are shaved.
  • Main Deity: Ganesh, Lakshmi, Navgraha.

Almost every baby has some hair on its head from birth. These hairs are considered impure. According to the prevailing belief in Hinduism, the human vagina is found after 84 lakh yonis. In such a situation, the child’s hair is cut to remove the sin of debt of all previous births. Apart from this, this sanskar is also performed for the worship of the mind.

  • According to Hindu religion, the mundan rites are performed only after seeing the right time. The child can get the benefit of the environment of the religious place. Its auspicious time is taken by the pandit on the basis of the birth and time of the child.
  • During this, Pandits also perform Havan. During the Mundan ceremony, the mother makes the child sit on her lap and keeps her face towards the fire in the west direction.
  • Next, the barber shaves the child with a razor. However, in some families the initials of the Pandit are cut off.
After this the child’s head is washed with Gangajal.
  • Then apply turmeric and sandalwood paste on the child’s head. If there is any kind of cut on the child’s head, then this paste helps in quick recovery.
  • Then the child’s hair is shed in the idol of a deity or in the river.
  • In some traditions, a small amount of hair is left during shaving. It is said that this peak provides protection to the brain.
